University of Alabama at Birmingham McCallum Basic Health Sciences Renovation

ENFRA provided commissioning services for the renovation of McCallum Basic Health Science building on the University of Alabama at Birmingham campus in Birmingham, AL. The complex renovation of this laboratory, research, and classroom facility is being completed in phases and includes both interior and exterior renovations.

Extensive renovations of the interior 8th and 9th floors include research labs, research support, office, and administrative support space that meet current biomedical research needs. This renovated space is an open laboratory format which allows for flexibility so that investigators from various fields and disciplines can utilize the space. This flexibility optimizes utilization of the space and encourages interdisciplinary collaboration and the sharing of scientific equipment and resources. Completed in 2020, the floors are now occupied by researchers.

ENFRA commissioned renovations to the 5th-7th floor interiors. Final renovations were completed in 2022 and 2023.
