Methodist University Hospital launched a transformational project to construct a new patient tower, enhancing care for Memphis and the surrounding communities with state-of-the-art facilities and cutting-edge technologies. ENFRA provided engineering design services for the 440,000-square-foot tower addition.
This large-scale, complex project required seamless coordination across the entire design team. Before vertical construction could begin, significant upgrades to existing infrastructure were necessary. ENFRA collaborated closely with the hospital, utility providers, and city officials to plan and execute the rerouting of power lines and chilled water piping—crossing city streets to serve the new tower.
Shorb Tower stands out for its advanced treatment technologies and clinical capabilities. From the outset, the design team focused on ensuring each space was built to support the specific equipment and operations it would house. The tower includes 18 operating rooms, with three dedicated specifically to transplant procedures. These operating suites were designed to handle highly complex surgeries and care coordination, and are equipped with integrated video streaming technologies for enhanced collaboration.
To meet the demands of such a sophisticated facility, ENFRA pushed the boundaries of engineering design—delivering high-performance infrastructure tailored to support innovation in patient care.
