Memorial Hermann Health System is a national leader in operational and energy efficiency, setting high standards for sustainability across its facilities. One of their key goals is for every new construction project to achieve an ENERGY STAR rating of at least 75 within one year of completion. For the six-story patient tower expansion at Memorial Hermann Sugar Land, they selected ENFRA as the commissioning agent.
The expansion added 60 medical/surgical beds, 14 ICU beds, a larger well-baby nursery and NICU, a new robotic operating room, and shell space to support future growth. ENFRA’s commissioning team collaborated closely with the contractor to ensure all building systems were installed, operated, and controlled as designed. In addition, ENFRA retro-commissioned the existing facility to optimize mechanical system performance and integration—maximizing energy efficiency across the entire campus.
One year after the expansion opened, Memorial Hermann Sugar Land achieved an ENERGY STAR score of 99 in 2018. The hospital continued to pursue energy optimization and, in 2019, reached a perfect ENERGY STAR score of 100—earning recognition as one of the most energy-efficient hospitals in the country.
