Burdin Riehl Ambulatory Care Center Expansion

The Burdin Riehl Ambulatory Care Center was expanded to include additional space for infusion treatments. The project expanded the first floor of an existing facility and added capacity to the central utility plant to serve the new space. Bernhard provided mechanical and electrical construction on the project.

Because the Ambulatory Care Center is connected to the main hospital by an overhead pedestrian bridge, the expanded first floor had to be constructed beneath the pedestrian bridge. The rooftop unit that provides HVAC to the space had to be installed underneath the bridge. The project team utilized a crane lift to set the unit on the roof. This required close coordination between safety, quality control, on-site staff, and the hospital’s facility team. In addition, medical gas and chilled water to serve the new space had to be connected to the hospital’s existing central plant. Our team coordinated a planned outage with facility staff that enabled connections to be installed with limited disruption to hospital operations. The expansion project was completed in 2021.
